The Port SEZ is nearing completion of land levelling and backfilling work on an area of 39.6 ha, which is a part of the first phase of the Port SEZ and is adjacent to Berths 8 and 9 at the Port of Olya. The work involves 55 pieces of equipment and about 350,000 cubic meters of soil. The contractor is a local construction company which won the tender for engineering preparation of the territory of the first stage of the port SEZ at the end of March this year.

"By September we plan to have the territory completely ready for the construction of infrastructure and hand it over to the residents for the development of the port activities. Container, grain and oil terminals of PLC “Caspiy” LLC and potential resident with investments from Iran will be placed on this territory”, - Director-General of JSC “SEZ “Lotus” Sergey Milushkin comments.

The anchor resident of the port SEZ is “PLC “Caspiy” LLC with a project on construction of a modern port with a container terminal. The total investment in the project will be more than 27 billion rubles, and the planned turnover by 2031 is about 8 million tons. International partners are participating in the project.

The first stage will involve the construction of berths 8 and 9 at the Port of Olya and the surrounding area with the installation of loading and unloading equipment, with a capacity of 3.2 million tons of cargo per year. The second stage will involve the construction of container and other terminals near the Zaburunny Ilmen (seven kilometres south of the Port of Olya).

Port SEZ was established in Astrakhan region in November 2020 by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of comprehensive measures to develop freight traffic along the North-South ITC. The port SEZ with a modern port will become a key link in the Russian part of the North-South international transport corridor.
