Main Engines Have Been Loaded into the First Container Ship for the Caspian Sea

At the production site of a tenant of Special Economic Zone Lotus, the loading of two main engines into the engine room of the multi-purpose dry cargo vessel (container ship) of Project 00108, first in a series, has been completed.

A contract for the construction of four container ships has been signed with the State Transport Leasing Company. This is the first Russian project which has significantly greater container capacity compared to domestic vessels of the same class.

The propulsion plant consists of two medium-speed diesel engines, each with a capacity of 1050 kW, and two mechanical propeller-rudder units. The main engines, with a dry weight of 7940 kg, are of domestic manufacture. The equipment has been designed and is being produced specifically for this series of container ships intended for operation along the INSTC, strategically important for Russia.

The ship’s universal operating characteristics allow for sea transport of 531 containers (72 of which are refrigerated), or grain and other bulk cargoes, round timber and lumber, oversized, long-length and heavy weight cargoes.

The dimensions of the new vessels correspond to the Volga-Don Max class. They will be capable of operation in maritime regions as well as on Russia’s inland waterways, taking into account dimensional limitations, including the Volga-Baltic Waterway and the Volga–Don Shipping Canal.

The main characteristics are as follows: maximum ship length – 141 m, width – 16.9 m, side height – 6.3 m. The volume of the cargo holds is 12000 m³, deadweight at sea – 9200 tonnes (at a draft of 5.3 m), in river – 5000 tonnes (at a draft of 3.6 m), speed – 10 knots.
