Cooperation Development between the Astrakhan Region and Turkmenistan Was Discussed in Ashgabat

On September 24-28, the Astrakhan Region Delegation headed by Denis Afanasiev, Vice-Governor — Chairman of the region government paid a working visit to Turkmenistan. Andrey Nalimov, Deputy Director General of SEZ Lotus JSC, also participated in the business mission.

One of the issues discussed during the visit was the construction of a logistics center of Turkmenistan in the Port SEZ of the Astrakhan Region. The relevant memorandum was signed within the framework of the Russian-Turkmen business forum held in Ashgabat. The opening of this center will allow to increase the volume of trade between our countries.

The participants of the meetings also discussed the opening of a regular shipping line between Astrakhan ports and the port of Turkmenbashi. According to Rosmorport, the cargo turnover of the Astrakhan and Olya seaports in the first eight months of this year amounted to 3.5 million tons, which is 28% higher than the cargo turnover for the same period last year. Grain is the main part of the cargo turnover. The volume of its transshipment amounted to 1.9 million tons, which is more than 50% of the total cargo volume. In general, the range of goods consists of food products, timber, cement, metal, chemical products and fertilizers, polypropylene, equipment, automobiles.

Launching of a regular shipping line will contribute to the formation of additional cargo traffic along the INSTC and in the future will ensure the efficient operation of the Turkmenistan logistics center in the Astrakhan Region and the Port SEZ in particular.

The Turkmenistan partners, in turn, expressed their willingness to cooperate in all the above-mentioned areas.
